I am writing a book

Two books in one, really. It/they will be fabulous. Watch out.

I wish I could tell you more about them, but I need Katye to investigate whether the things that I write here are automatically copyrighted.

Copyright is automatic when you place content into a "tangible" state. In other words, when you write it to paper, blog, disk etc, it is yours. You 90 days to register the work with the federal copyright office in order to receive full protection and the ability to get full compensation if stolen.
Here is the key: You can't copyright an idea. Words yes, ideas, no. You would be best to write a book privately and share snippets as you go.
