After long consideration, we decided that it made sense to break down and use some of the house money (since there's not enough for a downpayment on a new house and our credit sucks from being a one-income family with a chronically depressed bill-payer) on a laptop.
So on Thursday evening Mara and I went and bought it. It's a Toshiba Satellite and it's wonderful. I am typing on it now. It has wireless, so I can be in our office room and not in the family room. I got my desk set up and there is a nice place to work and my stuff is up with pictures on the bulletin board and everything like that.
I spent Friday evening moving my music files from the old external hard drive onto the laptop and I uploaded some of our CDs that hadn't gotten transferred before. That was pretty neat. My next move is to buy a audio cables so I can hook the laptop into the stereo directly.
I think Tim wants to buy me an iPod or similar (probably the Zune so I can stick with WMP format instead of Applecraptictunes) for xmas. I can't decide what I think about that. On the one hand, groovy, bring it on absolutely. On the other hand, we just blew our wad on this ginormous portable music storage system that also types, so that feels excessive and also just a little bit silly. I still want one. It just feels silly.
I wish I had something profound to say. I owe at least three of you about three hours worth of phone calls. I will find a way to make that happen sooner rather than later. I'm sorry!
Posted by Katye at December 1, 2007 11:19 PMWell, your computer is brand new and all.
But, ours ran so slowly with all that music on it.
You could compromise, get the Zune, use that solely as your music player (plug THAT in to your stereo) and then save the hard drive space for when Tim gets all those fancy new computer games!!!
Hi. The laptop sounds lovely!
I like applecraptunes. What do you dislike about them?
More later. Delaney is dying to speak to Mara.
Posted by: Kym at December 2, 2007 02:46 PMExcessive?! Pshaw! The whole point of the Zune or iPod (I LOVE my iPod, by the way) is to have the music portable. AND, if you get the iPod nano, you can also get the Nike + iPod doohickey to use for taking walks/jogs/runs. (you don't actually need Nike sneakers to use it).
Hoping I'm on the short list of those to whom you owe a call!!!!
Posted by: Deb at December 3, 2007 09:41 AMCongrats on the new computer. You will enjoy the WiFi. Being wireless is great. We went one step further and got air cards that allow us to use our laptops anyhere cell phones are. Put me on the call list, too. Miss you MUCHO!
Posted by: Connie at December 4, 2007 12:17 AMOk, so I met the new baby. It has a really cool purple bag and a really big face! Doesn't look anything any of us. We are very proud of the new addition. (but honestly, I love my Mac)

I miss you and reading your blog. Maybe I will be home in Ohio when you are and everyone can get together for a little while. Let us hear from you.
