Good for the soul

This has been a busy week! Monday night was "Meet the Candidates" night at the county Women's Democratic Club, so I spent the morning shopping for appropriate clothes (I got VERY lucky at Fashion Bug and now have a nice assortment of things for this kind of occasion -- and the skirts are even things that make me feel comfortable and like me!). Then went to the meeting, did my spiel, made some contacts and came home exhausted.

Tuesday night was the county meeting of the Central Committee, followed by the Executive Committee meeting, followed by the "regular" (i.e., the not just for ladies) Democrats Club meeting. I didn't know I would be asked to stand up and do the spiel again, so I was caught just a little off-guard -- not to mention not being fancied up in my new clothes (which got a laugh when I commented on that fact in my time to speak). But I had used up so much extroversion on Monday night that I was worn out all day Tuesday and got NOTHING done around the house and really didn't want to go to all the meetings on Tuesday night. I'd promised to be there, so I went, and it was good -- very flattering that so many people are behind me for this campaign -- but again, tiring.

Wednesday we got up and did a whole long list of chores, so the house looked very nice when Tim got home. We also got haircuts for the kids and a super treat at the mall. Then came home and made supper, which was delicious.

But the best part of all was the knitting group I've recently joined. They meet at Shirley's house, and it's just absolutely delicious! She lives way out in the country, has horses and cows and a huge garden and this big old farmhouse with all the most beautiful things inside it, many of which she has made herself. She's a potter and a weaver and a beginning knitter, so all her textiles are natural fibers and her whole house just laps you in soothing colors and textures and you know that she made all her bowls and plates and when you come in, everyone welcomes you and they give you a glass of wine and act like they've known you all your life and it was just amazingly good for me.

I worked on my sock (the second in the pair), I talked Shirley through finishing her hat, convinced her and Connie that socks are very do-able, got some good advice about my pottery woes and just went home feeling content and soothed and recharged and it was spectacular. Just what I needed!

Tonight Tim is playing with Gene and this weekend he takes ITK kids to a quiz match in Portsmouth -- their overnight trip of the year -- so I really needed the battery booster!

And now we are off to meet our friends at the old Ponderosa!

Peace~~~~

I am frustrated

I got sucked into taking another clay class -- this one is supposed to be the "advanced" class, and I signed up even though I knew this was a terrible time for me to try and get to classes and to have time to get to the studio.

Not that Tim isn't making the effort to get me there, but the studio hours are just ridiculous for the most part. They aren't open at all on Mondays, our class is Tuesday evening until 9, they're supposed to be open until 8 or 9 on Weds, but half the time they end up closing early; Thursday they close at 6, Friday 'til 10 (unless they decide to close early), Saturday until 6 and then Sunday from 12 to 4, and the weekend hours would be okay, but a) I can't spend my whole life down at the studio and b) I kinda need to give Tim some time on the weekend too. So really, it ends up being class night and Friday night and that's just not enough time to practice.

And I'm just awful right now. I'm not sure what is going on, but the rest of the group is throwing cute jars with lids and then the lids to go on them and I'm still struggling to get more than an idiotic bowl. Now I like my idiotic bowls, but I just feel stuck and not sure where to go from here.

Ugh.

Why did nobody ever tell me

about Mop & Glow? I have been battling this dull ugly floor for two years with crappy old Spic-N-Span and it just got duller and duller and always looked dusty, even when it was clean. But yesterday I washed it with ammonia & lysol, rinsed it and then used the Mop & Glow and now it's actually SHINY!!!

I was so inspired by the sparkly floor that I washed all the dishes, used a razor blade and Goof Off to scrape off the sticky residue on top of the backsplash tiles left over from when somebody (way before we moved in) took off a wallpaper border and never bothered to finish the job, and finally took a toothbrush and some BarKeeper's Friend to the grout lines to get the gunk out.

I think next I'd better clean out the refrigerator. But now I am off to clay.

This is an incredibly boring entry, but last week was way more exciting than I wanted to blog about. I'm exhausted by excitement right now.

Oh, and I had two cavities filled today. I greatly dislike having cavities filled and have therefore resolved to floss. You should floss too. We could make a deal about it and floss together...

Cheer!
