This Campaign is making me tired

Already! I've been working pretty much non-stop designing website, yard sign and brochure stuff and I am really loving the process -- this is what I like best you know, but I am also getting tired.

At this rate I am going to be too exhausted to go door to door, and that's no good! I should be done with design elements soon. Urusula, my campaign manager, doesn't seem to get my sense of humor. She is taking this whole thing sooooo SERIOUSLY and ripped my website all to pieces. I don't think she understands that anybody who takes the time to get to the site is probably already on my side, otherwise why bother. She hates the purple part -- she thinks I'm making fun of myself and not taking myself seriously there. I said "No no, I'm not making fun of ME, I'm making fun of the whole process!"

I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do about the website. I think I will change some of the first page, but the purple page is probably staying the way it is. I don't know how she will react to that. Maybe she will ditch me, but really, the part I needed was getting me jazzed up to do this thing, and she did that. If that's all she did, that would be enough really.

I go to order yard signs tomorrow. Whew, I feel very important at this stage.

Hope you are all well.

Too busy to blog?

How can anyone be too busy to blog? Really.

I have just been preoccupied with other things. For example: I am refurbishing my old bike for Mara and that's taking forever. It's got thirty years of grime on it. Or it did before I took it all apart and started cleaning it.

I am also really running for council president now. I have a campaign manager and everything! Can you imagine? I just registered a domain name and I'm setting up a website for the campaign -- which is taking up a lot of time. I got all involved in messing around with the voter file last night making walk lists for going door to door. And today I was down at the BOE looking at campaign finance paperwork for my opponent. I love the Freedom of Information Act, don't you?

And the kids are taking up lots of time. Mara's reading books are getting really long and I'm delighted by that, but also frustrated that we are not setting up a better system for getting them read before it's quite late and past bedtime. Matthew is in a phase like never before. He alternates between absolutely perfect helping sweetiepie and demon boy. He's doing lots of stuff he never really did before -- like talking up a blue streak and making up stories and plays and songs, and hitting me in the face when he's mad because I want him to try and poop on the potty. He's having a very hard time with listening at school and he's being very physical with the other kids, which is a problem.

And I'm trying to get the house clean. But that's not a new struggle at all.

What's up with you?

Hey Deb, remember that time

when you said, in a voice dripping with disdain, "Oh bite me!" and I did?

Remember when it was only a hop skip and a trudle?

Remember brocolini?

I am going to Woo tomorrow. Wooooo hoooooo!

Rollercoaster Days

Things have been really weird around here lately.

I was doing pretty well with getting up and getting everything running on time -- today didn't go well at all, but that's beside the point.

Matthew's three days of preschool (he goes on Tuesdays & Thursdays for two hours in the morning) have been wonderful. He had a pee accident on Thursday, but since he was enroute to the bathroom and just didn't make it all the way in time, it was not a big problem. I went yesterday and bought new and bigger underpants so he should be more able to get them down by himself in a speedy fashion. Unfortunately, that means his beloved Thomas and Wiggles and Bob the Builder pants are gone, but I got Nemo, Robots and Star Wars (which he calls Star Bars) instead and he's thrilled.

He loves his school and has a glorious time on the playground playing "wolf and little piggies". I am not sure if his playmates realize they are the little pigs, but he chases everybody anyway and they all yell and run and throw their heads back in delight of being three. It's beautiful.

He has made two very lovely pictures -- both HEAVY with glue -- and he always has a narrative about the pictures and what he intended with them.

Mara continues very well at school and I don't have time to go into all of the delights there, but she is very happy with gym class and math, so if she didn't look so much like her daddy, I would start to wonder if she had been switched at birth somehow... She is collecting friends, and they even have names now!

So all is well. Until around 4 p.m., when it all goes to hell again because everyone is exhausted and full of pent up emotions. Whew, I am worn out with this cycling up and down! More later!

First day of preschool

I wish I understood why I am so much more freaked out by Matthew going off to preschool for two hours twice a week than I was by the idea of Mara going to first grade all day every day. I really don't understand this phenomenon, but I am truly way more stressed about tomorrow morning than I was about two weeks ago.

Maybe it has something to do with the whole potty issue. Because I am very much afraid that he is not going to make it at school without an accident, and I don't know how many accidents he can have before they will boot him out of the class. And that feels stressful.

I didn't really have to worry about Mara failing at school. She is great, she is super ready. She has come a really long way since last year. And while Matty has come a long way too, it's a different long way. Sigh.

My babies are growing up too fast!
