It was all good

We just need to move closer to my family already, because Going Home Day sucks.

More later. I was just tired of the blank page.

First Piano Recital

Mara's first piano recital was tonight. She was amazing!

She's been taking lessons for about six weeks, from Tim and Amy's old piano teacher Mrs. Murray. Tim is doing well with it, despite some flashbacks to his own piano lesson experiences (they were mostly not good), and Mara is just thriving. She loves the lessons, she loves to practice. She loved the recital.

(She also loves lima beans and brussell sprouts, some days I worry just the teensiest bit that she might be an alien...)

Yesterday evening, after her lesson, she informed me that she would need to wear a dress to the recital because she intended to curtsey, and that requires a dress. This information caused something of a flurry until we discovered this morning that her dress from last year's holiday season still fits and we would just need some shoes to go with it. We headed to Target after school and found black Hello Kitty dressy shoes that would work great (on clearance for $6.49 even!) and new tights and barrettes to go with the "old" dress.

So tonight she got dressed up and did her thing. We were late -- what else is new, right? And naturally, Mara, in her role as the most wee student, was first on the program. But everyone was nice about it and she wasn't flustered at all. She walked to the piano, put down her music, adjusted the bench, and started to play "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" which she's been practising for just the past two weeks.

Midway through she got messed up and said something under her breath, like "oh I'm messed up" or something like that, but she figured out her place, started up again and finished. No kicking herself, no crying, no getting mad. She just did the recital gig, finished, picked up her music, curtseyed and walked out so the next kid could come on.

It was astounding! I am so proud of my girl!

Sick of Being Sick

Have I used that title before? Probably.

I somehow managed to re-infect myself with the crud, this time the bonus 3-day version.

There is nothing new to blog about, except that Matthew is starting to read. Which is exciting and terrifying all at the same time. Mara is currently playing Jolly Old St. Nicholas on the piano -- what's THAT all about?

At this rate, they are going to be grown up before I am. Sigh.

I am tired of puke

Not sure that title needs anything more than that by way of explanation, except to say that I have a whole new understanding of why bunkbeds are kind of a pain in the ass.

If I say the word "dripping" will that be enough?

Ugh.

Hey Dad, wasn't it better BEFORE I added this entry?
